Kim Kardashian was one of just many A-list celebrities to have made the guestlist of the extravagant, months-long Ambani wedding celebration that finally culminated into nuptials this weekend. And she made sure to match the opulent vibe with an outfit fit for royalty.
The reality TV star and Skims founder attended Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding on July 12 in Mumbai, India alongside her sister Khloe Kardashian — and dozens of other globally influential names. For months, the world’s wealthiest and most famous people have been enlisted to attend the celebrations, put on by Ambani’s billionaire father, Mukesh Ambani — the richest man in Asia.
Kardashian leaned into the wealth on Friday and arrived at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai wearing a floor-length, shimmering red skirt known as a lehenga and fashioned it with a saree, with a matching cropped bustier top adorned with tassels. Kardashian also wore a diamond hair ornament down her center part along with diamond necklaces and a bracelet. Khloe Kardashian opted for a similar silhouette, except her top included long sleeves and was gold and cream-coloured.
In true Kardashian fashion, Kim shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos of getting ready for the main event, including the inspiration behind her decadent dress. Posting to her Instagram Stories on Friday, Kardashian shared close-ups of her cat-eye makeup and clear, stiletto nails. She also shared a photo of Jasmine from the 1992 Disney classic, Aladdin — seemingly showing her inspo for the night.
Some fans likened her outfit to what she wore on the cover of Vogue India in 2018 when she posed in a glittering red saree made by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Kim Kardashian also wrote on one slide alongside Khloe that the entire trip to India was filmed for their Hulu reality show, The Kardashians. “Had to screen grab our video bc we’re just so happy to be lucky enough to travel the world together,” Kim wrote. “And duh were filming The Kardashians too so you guys can see Kim and Khloe Take India.”
Wedding celebrations for the wealthy couple began in March, when Rihanna performed a full concert — only her second in several years — followed by a European cruise in May with live performances from Andrea Bocelli, the Backstreet Boys, David Guetta, Katy Perry, and Pitbull. Justin Bieber also performed for guests one week before the wedding. Rumours swirled that Drake, Adele, or Lana Del Rey are expected to perform this weekend.
Guests at pre-wedding activities included Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, former British prime ministers Tony Blair and Boris Johnson, and so many more. The actual nuptials on Friday brought in other guests including John Cena, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Nick Jonas, the Kardashians, and others. While there isn’t an exact price on how much this entire wedding has cost, NBC News reports that the entire months-long celebration likely cost up to $600 million total.
