I Tried Kiss’ ColorFX Press-On Nails—Here Are My Thoughts

Press-on nails have evolved considerably in recent years. They’re now more durable, look more natural, and come in every trendy design imaginable. While several new brands have emerged, Kiss is one of the earliest pioneers in the category and remains among the most innovative. Today, Kiss offers a wide range of press-on nail options, with the imPRESS Color FX line being one of the most intriguing to me. These nails take minutes to apply and require no glue whatsoever.

About My Nails: Delicate and small

I love to visit the nail salon, but my gel manicures are sometimes too hard on my natural nails. More often than not, I opt to care for my nails without adding nail polish. Most nail techs mention that my nail beds are small, so press-on nails don’t always fit comfortably. Staying power and whether the nails would fit comfortably were two of the most important criteria when it came to testing out the ColorFX press-ons.

How to Apply: Follow the instructions carefully

For best results, it’s important to follow the instructions given by the brand. The nail kit includes 30 press-on nails, a cuticle stick, a nail file, and a prep pad. First, you’ll want to match your natural nails with the correct size press-on nails. Then, wash your hands and gently push back excess skin with the cuticle stick. Once you complete those steps, use the prep pad to remove excess oil from your nail beds. It also helps to file and buff your nails (I opted to use my own nail file, but the one included is super efficient).

Finally, peel the plastic cover off the back of the press-on nail to expose the pre-applied adhesive, and carefully stick each nail on. Hold for 30 seconds. You can then cut and file each nail as you see fit. I normally wear my natural nails with gel polish, so I cut my press-ons to give myself a similar feel. After following the easy steps, I was able to go about my daily routine like I was fresh out of the nail salon.

The Results: A perfect fit and finish

Now, for the big question: how long do the nails last? I tried an experimental approach to test the wear time. On one of my hands, I skipped the prep pad step. Within four days, I started losing a few nails. On the hand that I properly prepped, my nails lasted seven days. After the week-long period, the color of the nails faded a bit, and I craved a fresh set. If you do a lot of work with your hands or wash them as often as I do, you’ll notice slight movement with your nails. However, you can rest assured that they won’t come off until you remove them.

On that note, the brand advises against pulling the nails off. Instead, soak them in warm water with soap or oil to safely remove the nails. Once the nails lift, gently remove them and wipe off your natural nails to remove the remaining adhesive.

The Value: High-quality nails at an affordable price

I must reiterate how impressed I was with the quality of the nails. For less than $10, you get to sport a cute nail set that looks like a professional did it.
