Valentine’s Day Party Ideas for the Classroom

You’ve been put in charge of the class Valentine’s Day party at school and now you’re thinking… what do I do?

Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan for you! Check out these Valentine’s Day Class party ideas that we love!

How do you run a kids Valentine’s Day party at school?

As a Room Mom or Parent Volunteer in elementary schools over the last decade, in every grade from TK (prekindergarten) and kindergarten onward, I’ve organized and helped out at a lot of class Valentine’s Day parties.

Here’s the basic Valentine’s Day party structure that I’ve seen repeated successfully each year!

  1. Meet with the classroom teacher to discuss what he/she wants to happen on Valentine’s Day. Find out the amount of time you have for the class party and what is allowed/not allowed.
  2. Create a Valentine’s Day Party plan with FOUR stations. See below. Get your ideas approved by the teacher.
  3. Have the classroom teacher divide the class into four groups that will work well together ahead of the Valentine’s Day party.
  4. Make a Volunteer Sign Up a few weeks ahead of time to get a Parent Helper for each party station and get party supply donations.
  5. Have parents send supplies to school a day or two ahead of the party so you can confirm you have everything before the Valentine’s Day party.
  6. Set up the party stations on Valentine’s Day (or another designated day).
  7. Have each group start at a Valentines station and rotate to a different station every 15 minutes (or more/less depending on how long your party is).
  8. Have so much fun! Don’t forget to snap some photos.

What are the best Valentine’s Day Party Stations?

For class parties I love to set up four activity stations. Valentine’s Day parties are much easier when kids are in small groups versus all doing the same thing at the same time.

Here are the four Valentine’s Day party stations I typically set up:

  1. Valentines themed Arts & Crafts
  2. Valentine’s Day Games
  3. Valentine’s Day Bingo
  4. Valentines themed Snack

In this post you’ll see a lot of ideas! Pick ONE or TWO ideas to try for each party station!

I like to type up the names of each party station and put them in frames nearby in the classroom so everyone knows what to expect (adults and kids). I’ll add my Canva Party sign template below and you can use it and customize it to fit the party activities you choose!

To help you easily plan a class party, I’m going to give you a few Valentine’s Day party ideas that you could try at each of these stations.

Valentines Day Arts & Crafts

For a Class Valentines party I always try and keep the arts & crafts somewhat low prep and low mess if I can! Click on each activity below for more details!

Foil Heart Art

This is one of my favorite art activities to do with kids. The hearts turn out beautifully! You can’t make just one!

Make a Love Bug

Decorate popsicle sticks and doilies with markers and stickers to create your own love bug! Inspired by the post linked below.

Design Beaded Hearts

Creating with beads is always fun! Try turning them into hearts for Valentine’s Day!

Make Washi Tape Heart Suncatchers

Use washi tape to make beautiful heart sun catchers!

Create Woven Paper Heart Baskets

This is a blast from the past! I loved making these when I was younger. Have you ever made one?

Make a Valentines Houses

Decorate a brown paper bag with stickers, paper, markers, and glue to make a Valentines house to hold all your valentines!

Make Secret Kindness Notes

Grab a white crayon, paper, and markers to make some secret kindness notes for people you love.

Message in a Bottle Craft

Grab a little bottle and write a message inside. Add hearts, sand or dyed rice, and deliver to someone special!

Make Playdough Love Monsters

This is a sensory play activity plus an art activity! Encourage kids to use playdough and hearts to make love monsters. Give them google eyes, pipe cleaners, foam hearts, and other embellishments. You can even put it together in a kit like the one linked below.

Try a Pre-Made Valentine’s Day Craft

Oriental Trading and Amazon have a lot of simple Valentine’s Day Crafts that are pre-made. All you have to do is follow the instructions. I usually pick two of these for a station since sometimes kids blow through them quickly.

Here are a few ideas:

Valentine’s Day Classroom Games & Activities

At a Valentines game station I usually try and have a few games or activities for kids to try. I usually have some candy or prizes that they can earn as they play these games. Here are a few favorite Valentines game & activity stations .

Build Heart Towers

Heart towers are fun to build! All you need are toothpicks and gummy hearts. Have kids see who can build the tallest or more creative tower.

Conversation Hearts Challenge

Grab some Conversation Hearts and do some simple challenges with them!

  • See how many you can pick up with chopsticks from one plate and move to the other plate in 30 seconds.
  • See how many you can balance on top of one another to make a high tower in 30 seconds.
  • Put a craft stick in your mouth. Balance candy hearts on the craft stick while you hold it in your mouth. See how how you can build your tower. Now see if you can walk.

Try a Heart Walk

Play music while kids walk around on top of the colored heart cards. When the music stops, call out a color. Whoever is on that colored card, gets candy! Repeat. Download the game cards using the link below.

Valentines Cup Knock Down Game

Stack towers of cups and knock them down! Add some hearts to the cups and write on them to turn them into Conversation Hearts.

Valentines Bingo Station

Valentines Bingo is one of our “go to” activities every year. Kids enjoy playing and you can get harder Bingo cards each year to make it more engaging for the older kids.

You can download my Valentines Bingo cards below or check Pinterest or Etsy for more detailed ones for older kids.

Valentines Bingo

Valentines Bingo is low prep and easy to set up! Just grab some candy corn and pass out a cup or small bag to each child. Click on the button below for my free printable Valentines Bingo cards for preschoolers or grab this one for older kids.

Valentines Snack & Treat Station

Typically snacks need to be prepackaged at most schools and allergy friendly. This makes having a Valentines snack station tricky, but not impossible. Make sure to work with your teacher and school to follow all allergy guidelines and school rules with regards to snacks.

The purpose of a Valentines snack station is to give kids a chance to sit down, chat with friends, and fuel during a busy party! Here are some snack ideas we’ve done in the past depending on the rules in the classroom.

Cupid’s Donut Skewers

Give each kid a few donut holes, a skewer, paper, tape, and scissors to build their own cupid’s arrow treat. You can even add in some fruit for them to cut up and add.

Xs and O’s Pretzels

These are fun Xs and Os shaped pretzels! You can probably find them cheaper at Target. You can even use them to have the kids play Tic Tac Toe!

Decorate Valentine’s Day Cookies

You can often order Valentine’s Day heart cookie kits from local grocery stories or bakeries. Kids can decorate the cookies and eat them at the snack station. If you don’t have a local baker who can make these, the cookie kit below is one we’ve used before!

Make Valentine Love Bug/Butterfly Treats

These are delicious and cute! Use whatever types of candy or snacks you want! It doesn’t have to be candy.
