I love to start my day with coffee and some days, I also enjoy a mid afternoon coffee pick me up. To me, this cold coffee drink is such an appealing treat rather than a regular hot coffee. This Coconut Cream Coffee Frappe Recipe is something you can make at home for a fraction of the cost of those expensive frozen coffee shop drinks. The coconut cream gives it an amazing flavor and super creamy texture!
Easy Coconut Frappe Tutorial
First, what is a frappe? A frappé is a chilled, blended, or shaken beverage that’s typically sweet and frothy. It originated in Greece as a coffee-based drink but has since expanded to include variations with other flavors and bases. Then there are the American frappes which are blended, ice-based drinks that can include coffee, milk, flavor syrups, and whipped cream. Various retailers offer frozen coffee drinks in this style such as the Starbucks Frappuccino® or the McCafé® Frappé. I am fan of trying all the different versions but I also love to save money and make my own frozen coffee drinks at home.
A coffee and coconut frappe is a tropical, indulgent treat you can have right her in the United States! Coffee and coconut are a fantastic flavor combo! The nutty, creamy sweetness of coconut pairs beautifully with the rich, slightly bitter taste of coffee. It’s a popular pairing in coffee drinks because the coconut softens the bitterness and adds a subtle, exotic flavor. A coconut coffee creamer may be chosen as dairy-free option or simply because the creamy texture of coconut milk or cream adds fun flavor and richness.
Coconut Cream Frappe Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Coconut Cream or full-fat Coconut Milk Or Coconut Coffee Creamer
- 6-10 Coffee Ice Cubes – use your favorite brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup room temperature coffee (or cold brew)
- coconut cream ice cream for topping (optional)
- Chocolate Syrup to taste (optional)
I love the taste of coconut cream in coffee. It is a great non-dairy option that is so flavorful and creamy! However, if you prefer, you could substitute coconut milk which is also dairy-free but the coffee frappe will be less creamy in consistency. For those that may be unfamiliar with coconut cream you can usually find it in your local grocery store in the section with evaporated and condensed milk in the baking aisle. An example brand is Thai Kitchen Coconut Cream which comes in a can. I included my amazon affiliate link for coconut cream for your convenience. Or you can find coconut coffee creamer by brands such as Chobani or Coffee Mate.
How To Make A Frappe At Home:
I mention using coffee ice cubes. If you’ve read any of my frappe recipes before like my Homemade Mocha Frappe, then you know my coffee ice cube trick.  If not, here’s the scoop. Regular ice cubes will water down your coffee drinks. If you use coffee ice cubes, your iced coffee or frozen coffee drinks will stay rich and flavorful. To make coffee ice cubes, simply pour regularly brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze.  We do this regularly to keep a supply on hand.
You can make this coconut cream coffee frappe with or without chocolate in the blender depending on your preference. If a coconut cream mocha frappe is up your alley, try adding 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup into the blender with the other ingredients. Or you can just line the cup and use a bit of chocolate syrup for looks (what I do). Or leave it out all together, as you like.
Want creamy coffee with thicker consistency- use the coconut cream in your coffee. Prefer it not so rich? Go with the coconut milk in your coffee drink. Either way be sure to shake your can of coconut milk or your bottle of coconut coffee creamer before you measure and add it to the recipe.
Place the coffee ice cubes, coconut cream, and coffee into your blender or into a single serve cup like a Ninja blender cup. That’s my favorite way to make this Coconut Cream Coffee Frappe Recipe. It’s easy to drink right from the cup that way and not dirty other dishes.
Blend it until it’s smooth and either drink from the cup or pour into a mug. I drizzled a little syrup into my mason jar before I poured it in and then topped it with a little coconut cream ice cream for an extra special treat. You can also drizzle a little extra chocolate syrup on top too!
What’s really great about the coconut cream is that it adds a great specialty flavor and doesn’t require added sugar! Just a few simple ingredients and it is perfect in the hot summer months or if you get hot flashes!
