What’s an easy Valentine art project for preschool?
Try using cardboard to make some heart scrape art! This is such a creative and fun art process for kids. You only need a few materials and can repeat this again and again.

Supplies Needed
Here are the simple supplies you’ll need for this Valentines themed art activity.
- White Cardstock or notecard with a heart drawn on it
- Craft tray or pan (we get our metal pans at the Dollar Store)
- Piece of cardboard
- Sharpie
- Q-tips
- Scissors (for the grown up)
- Washable Paint
Prep Ahead
Here are a few things you’ll want to prep ahead for young kids. Older kids can cut these on their own.
- Draw a heart onto white cardstock or a white blank notecard.
- Put washable paint into containers or a muffin tin.

How to set up this Valentine Art Project
- Lay out heart papers on a craft tray or pan with Q-tips and washable paint.
- Keep a piece of cardboard nearby!
How to make this Valentine Art Project
- Encourage kids to add paint to the paper hearts using the Q-tips.

- Explain that they want to use a good amount of paint so that they have little globs of paint on their paper.

- Show kids how to use the cardboard to scrape the paint on the heart to create designs.

- Repeat this again and again with different pieces of paper!

- This is a process art activity, so the goal is for kids to explore the art process and experiment! Let them try painting and using the cardboard in different ways to see what they come up with!

- Once they’re done decorating their paper, hang it to dry! You can use their art for decorations or even to make a Valentine heart banner.
